Today, we celebrate the second UN World Sustainable Transport Day. The day highlights the critical role of sustainable transport in economic growth and social welfare, urging global cooperation to develop resilient, low-emission infrastructure. It emphasizes the urgent need to transition to cleaner, greener transportation systems to combat climate change.
At Airpro, we believe that transparency is key to driving sustainable change. As a subsidiary of the state-owned airport company Finavia, we decided to create a voluntary sustainability report with Brandkind, even though Finavia has the main responsibility for the group's sustainability reporting.
This decision stemmed from our long-standing commitment to sustainable business practices. Since 2014, we have transitioned to using electric equipment and have paid close attention to environmental impacts and the lifecycle of our equipment.
Transparency about our commitment to sustainability and reporting was crucial for us. We wanted to highlight our achievements and goals in the field of sustainability and saw the report as an opportunity to improve our sustainability work and receive valuable feedback.
The aviation industry is highly regulated, and this is deeply ingrained in our operations. As legislation changes and standards become stricter, we work closely with Finavia. However, we have our own focus areas that we wanted to highlight in our reporting.
The reporting process was intense but rewarding. Gathering data and information from different departments required a lot of collaboration and internal communication, bringing our teams closer together and increasing understanding of the importance of sustainability work within the company. Our collaboration with Brandkind was more of a sparring partnership, where ideas were exchanged, and great suggestions on the content and format of the report were received. We were very satisfied with the partnership and support, which allowed us to clearly present our key themes in the report.
The reporting process made sustainability work more concrete and visible throughout the organization. We established a sustainability team, identified areas for improvement, and set clear goals. We created a measurement system that we have been following for the past few years. We improved our emissions reporting, took concrete actions for sustainability, and strengthened collaboration with stakeholders. We received positive feedback for our transparency and the measures we have taken for sustainability. The report has also been a useful tool for our employees, helping them understand better what sustainability means within Airpro and our community.
The aviation industry, which accounts for about 3% of all human-caused emissions, has reduction and sustainability targets. The path toward sustainable aviation involves investing in new technologies and improving fuel efficiency. Discussions in the industry focus on how to reduce CO2 emissions and how passengers can make more responsible choices. Collaboration and innovation are key to ensuring that each player does its part. At airports, the focus is on reducing energy consumption, especially in terminals and heavy equipment. Future plans are exciting, and it will be interesting to see where they lead.
