Shaping the Magic of Lapland’s Winter – Join Our Seasonal Team

Henri Suurnäkki, Head of Network and Business Development at Airpro, shares a glimpse behind the scenes of Lapland’s busiest season. In this post, Henri dives into how Airpro prepares for the magical winter rush in the Arctic and how the seasonal team plays a key role in creating unforgettable experiences for travelers from around the world.

Although summer is still in full swing, at Airpro we’re already looking ahead to winter. Preparing for the Lapland season starts early, and while the Arctic enjoys its endless daylight, we’re getting ready for the busiest time of the year.

With thousands of travelers expected to arrive in Lapland to experience its one-of-a-kind winter, we’re now launching our recruitment for the seasonal team that will make it all happen – with professionalism, efficiency, and heart.

Henri describes the five unique Lapland airports:

"All the airports have their own character, each one playing a vital role in welcoming visitors to Finnish Lapland. While the settings differ, the goal is the same everywhere: to ensure smooth, safe, and friendly service for travelers from all over the world."

Here’s where you might find yourself this winter:

Rovaniemi – The official hometown of Santa Claus and a global favorite during the holidays

Kittilä – Gateway to Levi’s famous ski slopes and World Cup events

Ivalo – Surrounded by Arctic wilderness and a favorite for northern lights seekers

Kuusamo – Near the lively Ruka ski resort, known for its outdoor action and family trips

Enontekiö – A peaceful, remote location for those drawn to Lapland’s quieter side

Every location is part of the bigger picture in delivering reliable, high-quality service all season long.

So, what kind of roles are we actually hiring for? The Lapland season is full of energy and it takes a committed team to keep everything running smoothly behind the scenes. Henri shares: "Over the years, I’ve seen how every role, plays a part in creating that winter magic. We’re looking for people to join us in a variety of seasonal positions – from passenger service to baggage and ramp operations, security, and aircraft and terminal cleaning."

"Each role is essential, and together they form the backbone of our winter operations. And you don’t need prior experience to get started. We provide comprehensive training and onboarding, the most important thing is a curious and reliable attitude. What we’re really looking for are people who want to grow and learn with us."

Why work a winter season in Lapland?

The atmosphere in our northern airports is truly international. You'll meet families on their way to see Santa Claus, international ski teams headed to the slopes, and travelers from every corner of the globe chasing the northern lights. English is often the working language, and no two days are ever the same.

It is also great how many of the seasonal employees come back year after year. For many, it’s a stepping stone into the aviation industry. Others come to grow professionally, build confidence, and learn new skills in a fast-paced, supportive environment.

Henri continues: "Personally, I think one of the biggest reasons people return is the team spirit. There’s a real sense of belonging here and everyone looks out for each other. And when you’re part of something as unique and unforgettable as a Lapland winter season, it stays with you."

Your Timeline to Take Off

The recruitment process for the Lapland winter season is on, and applications are accepted throughout the summer until September. Training begins in phases between August and November, depending on the location and role.

"From experience, I’d recommend applying sooner rather than later, especially if you’re interested in working in Rovaniemi or Kittilä, where the demand is highest. Early applications help ensure a better chance of landing your preferred role."

At Airpro, we believe in creating a workplace where everyone feels valued, supported, and empowered to do their best. If you’re ready for a season filled with teamwork and moments you’ll remember for a lifetime, we’d love to hear from you!
