Days growing shorter and dropping temperatures are clear signs that winter is coming. As we get ready for winter, Airpro is leading the way in sustainable ground handling with the introduction of innovative double-mixing feature for our deicing units. The pioneering technology is in use at Helsinki and Rovaniemi airports, significantly reducing our environmental impact, aligning with our commitment to sustainability, while ensuring safe and efficient operations.
The double-mixing feature allows for mixing deicing fluid with water also in the second step of deicing/anti-icing process. The mixing ratio is determined by the prevailing weather conditions. This mixture positively impacts the environment by reducing the consumption of pure propylene glycol by thousands of litres per season and reduces the harmful effects of glycol on nature. As the consumption reduces, the emissions from fluid transportation are lowered.
Henri Suurnäkki, Head of Business Development at Airpro, shared their thoughts on this topic:
"Implementing the double-mixing feature is a significant step towards our sustainability goals. It not only reduces propylene glycol usage but also ensures we maintain high safety and quality standards. We are proud to lead the industry in adopting such innovative solutions."
Following the implementation at Helsinki, we have expanded this feature to Rovaniemi Airport, further enhancing our deicing capabilities in the region and bringing innovative deicing process to Finnish Lapland.
By reducing chemical usage and environmental impact, Airpro sets a benchmark for sustainable ground handling practices in the aviation industry. Today, our equipment at Helsinki Airport now runs on electricity or renewable motor fuel oil, showcasing our dedication to zero-emission ground handling operations. We are excited to continue our journey towards more eco-friendly operations and invite others to join us in this mission.
