World Day for Safety and Health at Work

World Day for Safety and Health at Work reminds us that safety is a way of working every single day, especially when we are under pressure and the temptation to take shortcuts is greatest. We often think that a small shortcut doesn’t matter, yet we rarely stop to consider how many people it could ultimately affect.

Safety concerns both ourselves and the colleague standing next to us. A single careless moment can have far‑reaching consequences: for the next shift, the entire work community, and ultimately, for life at home. Our loved ones trust that we will return safely from work. Every safe choice we make during the workday is a promise to them as well.

Focusing on safety means everyday actions: pausing before starting a task, following instructions even when we are in a hurry, and having the courage to speak up when something doesn’t feel right. Speaking up is about caring. When it comes to safety, we are not only protecting ourselves, but each other.

Guidelines ensure that no one has to bear unnecessary consequences. Safety is built through small choices we make daily, often without even noticing. World Day for Safety and Health at Work is a good moment to pause and ask: Am I making choices I can stand behind when I return home?

Safety starts with each one of us.
