Finnish Airpro and French TLD enter into an internationally substantial procurement contract concerning more than 50 units of ground handling service equipment for Airpro between the years 2018 and 2020. Following Airpro’s previous investments in sustainable development solutions in air traffic services, a majority of the equipment utilize electricity as a power source.
Ground handling and passenger service provider Airpro and French ground handling service equipment manufacturer TLD have signed a substantial procurement contract worth several million euros. According to the contract, Airpro will procure altogether more than 50 units of ground handling service equipment to be placed at 16 Regional Airports across Finland. Product delivery will occur in phases between the years 2018 and 2020.
The order entails multiple vehicles and equipment for various uses in ground handling, such as mobile stairways, loading belts, aircraft tugs, pushbacks, ground power units as well as lavatory and water trucks. An example of the products to be procured is TLD’s new and innovative beltloader with convincing efficiency and simplicity in design for handling regional aircraft. Another example is the electric towbarless tractor TPX-100-E which increases driving comfort and product lifetime while reducing operating costs and emissions. Both products are designed to meet the needs of customers such as Airpro.
Procuring equipment from TLD is part of the largest equipment investment program in the history of Airpro. Motivated by energy and emission efficiency, Airpro renewed its equipment strategy in 2014 and based it on the notion of product life cycle. Following Airpro’s previous investments in sustainable development solutions in air traffic services, over 80 percent of the equipment to be produced from TLD utilize electricity as a power source. The procurement will increase the share of motorized electric equipment in Airpro’s operative collection to 70 percent by 2020.
”Ground handling service equipment are essential in providing high-quality, safe and profitable ground handling services. Most of our current equipment function mechanically with very little strain on the environment. Regarding our operations, it is important for us to advance investments that align with sustainable development. Thus, we want to invest in electricity as a power source. Our cooperation with TLD will also enhance the efficiency of our maintenance functions”, says Managing Director Janne Hattula.
